Sustainable Headphones for Kids and Adults

We are so happy to introduce you to these two eco-conscious sustainable headphones. We think it is so important to make the more conscious purchase in all areas of our lives and these are two brands that offer us a great eco-friendly option when it comes to headphones and speakers.

Pogs Sustainable Headphones for Kids

sustainable headphones by Pogs

Pogs are really a great pair of sustainable headphones for kids! We especially love the volume control they have and the way they fit on the little ones heads. Kids can play freely with them while listening to their favourite music or stories. We absolutely love playing stories four our son. It keeps him entertained and it gives him a chance for some down time.

We have even recorded some of our most beloved books and put them on an mp3 for him. I think he likes listening to his parents read his favourite books. The head phones are made of recycled plastics and sustainably. They also have a small port so that siblings or friends can listen to something together as pictured above. We highly recommend you support this small brand that is truly making a mark in children’s headphones.

House of Marley

House of Marley makes headphones that are not only sustainable but sound incredible and their mission is to make their headphones with mother earth as their priority. We are completely aligned with this brand and its mission and highly recommend their products. As avid music lovers we look forward to trying some of their speakers and turntables in the future.

Av_Norden

¨Av Norden was the result of founder Jenny Jackson’s long time pursuit to launch a venture that would contribute to a healthier, more responsible, and more collaborative fashion industry.¨ and that is exactly what Jenny is doing. We got to virtually meet Jenny recently and I am so blessed to get to know people as wonderful as her. Not only does she have a great eye for amazing products but all of the brands she works with are some of the best products on the sustainable market. I guarantee you will feel the same when you touch these fabrics and see the attention to detail these brands put in their clothing. This neck protector/mask/headband is really a great accessory to have, and it is quite comfortable to breathe through for those that have trouble with regular face masks. So wether you are looking for yourself or your little ones this platform Has some really special unique pieces.

Who doesn’t like to run through the woods like a fairy in a beautifully flowing skirt! We had so much fun taking these pictures and in these trying times isn’t that what its all about! This skirt is wonderful because you can wear it while lounging around the house or dress it up for the holidays with a pair of heels and the beauty of it is it is a timeless piece that can fit into anyones capsule wardrobe.

As simple as this sounds, how many times have you bought your kids pants with little draw strings, that for some reason do not actually work as drawstrings? Never made sense to me… Our son is lean and lanky and if he is not in diapers most pants will fall right off. Not these! The design of this particular outfit speaks for itself, so freaking cute right? But it is also functional, I can tighten the pants around his waist and the pants as well as the t-shirt have pockets. If you have a toddler you probably know how much they like to stow away their treasures. Any time I try and put other pants on him now he frowns and says ¨Mom!!! No pockets.¨ Not only does the adorable hat protect my toddler from the sun but we are constantly asked where we got it. I hope he does not grow out of it too soon!

Daddy is so special to our little one, while I thought I would be able to have the Mommy and son look going, He specifically said ¨No Mom!¨This is Daddy’s and my hat. Needless to say they both look way to cute in them for me to disagree.

Please stop by Av_Norden’s online store and support this project, Jenny has some fun new projects coming soon. Stay tuned!

AllBirds

AllBirds did something very innovative and uses merino wool as well as other natural fibers, like sugar cane and trees in the making of their shoes. They even came up with their own fabric ¨Trino¨ Trees and Merino. This makes for a durable and sleek looking fabric for their shoes. I love that AllBirds has no logos and really fits into the basics of what one requires from a shoe.

Not only does this store have an incredible selection of eco-friendly shoes for your every day sustainable lifestyle but they also have actual stores located all over the world. So if you are ever curious and feel inclined to try a pair you can probably source a store near you, but if that isn’t enough you can also order a pair online and if you are not satisfied can return them within 30 days no questions asked. That to me is some good customer service.

Shoes that tread light on the planet – All Birds

This brand also really prides itself on reducing its carbon footprint. ¨Our ambition is to be like a tree, leaving the environment cleaner than we found it.¨ It is so inspiring to see how they are working towars bringing those numbers to neutrality.

Everybody needs a good staple cardigan in their closet! I love the simplicity of this one and I really support brands that use merino wool, it has so many great qualities. It is a breathable fabric, anti bacterial, sustainable, temperature regulating and feels really pleasant against the skin. So for me a nice oversized cardigan gets a lot of use.

I really love the puffer jacket but it doesn’t make much sense for us here on Hawaii. However it will be a go to for upcoming winters in Germany, when we get to go back for Christmas, hopefully next year.

They really go above and beyond for their natural resources from the all new chitosan fibre for their t-shirts, a fabric is a natural odor fighter, to using recycled polyester for the fillings of the jacket.

Even the detail of the packaging has been thoroughly thought out, using 90% post-consumer recycled cardboard that serves as a shoebox, shopping bag, and mailer all in one. Now that is what I call efficient and who knows what else you can use the box for once it is at your house.

This is really a great place to get your every day basics, from shoes, underwear to colourful socks and feel really good about supporting a brand that is striving towards bettering our planet.

Soul Flower

Sometimes a name can say so much…. Soul Flower is exactly that. A free spirited, comfortable, fun, family oriented brand with such attention to detail. Our order came with a hand written note, and a bag of awesome stickers and you could really feel the love. It was truly appreciated on this end. Soul Flower even has their own eco-friendly screen printing facility in house. They have so many wonderful uplifting prints. They have a huge selection of products from yoga wear to headbands to boho hippie chic jewellery, bags and accessories.

¨We seek inspiration in the simplicity of everyday life – in nature and in music, in free-spirited adventures and in like-minded souls. We create clothing in a way that supports our planet, spreads a positive message, and most importantly — helps you express yourself. You can make a difference with what you wear, so share the vibe and let your Soul Flower in our natural fiber clothing!¨- Soul Flower this is so eloquently put that I couldn’t really say it better.

¨Soul Flower is a natural clothing brand for kind souls and free spirits.¨ If you want to be uplifted and feel the positivity of a brand this is the one for you.

Jackalo

This is an absolute favourite for us! A really sturdy pair of pants, reinforced at the knees, all sustainable, durable and more importantly one that can grow with your toddler. These pants have a functional draw string (I have already mentioned the importance of that for me), pockets and you can fold them up, so your child can grow into them and have them for a few years.

We will be posting more pics periodically as he grows with them. If that is not enough they have a ¨Trade Up¨ program where you can send back your pants when your child grows out of them and they will give you a $15 store credit, repair your old pants and resell them at a cheaper price on their Pre- Loved section of their web, you have to be a subscriber to shop this page. I think that is a pretty amazing deal and truly sustainable. We are already looking into buying our second pair (I really like the light ones).

¨Strong enough for active kids, gentle on the environment- Jackalo

So no matter what your budget is this purchase is well worth your while. These pants are perfect for the child that skates, climbs trees, plays in the dirt and loves the outdoors! I highly recommend you stop by the Jackalo store for a truly sustainable, durable, awesome shopping experience for you and your little ones.

I always like to remind you, the reader, that supporting these brands really does help our environment and makes a difference, you can help by purchasing these brands or sharing this article with family and friends. Thank you for stopping by and being a part of the Eco Couple family!

5 Ways to Start living more sustainably by Greening your Home and Kitchen

Thank you for your interest in living more sustainably. The very first thing I believe we should ALL do, is invest in some type of water filter, be it an under the sink filter or on the counter, whatever you are most drawn to and is in your budget. Not buying plastic bottles of water already reduces a huge amount of waste in each family. If you would like to know which filter we like to use read our blogpost ¨Our Favourite Water Filter¨

This is a quick guide for some simple changes you can make in your every day life that can be truly beneficial for our planet. It is as simple as switching out your plastic scrub brush for this beautiful brush made from bamboo, and coconut, 100% biodegradable.

The more we learn about plastic pollution the more sense it makes to replace our plastic items for sustainable versions. There are very simple steps we can take towards creating less harmful waste and you really do feel better about yourself when you notice how much less trash you are adding to the plastic pollution. Here are a few helpful tips and brands we discovered and wanted to share.

ECO LUNCH BOX

Living more sustainably with stainless steel lunch boxes made in india
Mandala Lunch Box

Lunch Boxes are imperative in our lives right now, having a toddler means you have to be ready with a meal on hand at all times. Well I did not want to use plastic and glass seemed a little dangerous while on the road. We came across the perfect solution, stainless steel. Sustainable safe lunch boxes for on the go. Look how practical and convenient these beautiful lunch boxes or should I say circles are. I absolutely love them. There are so many more amazing plates and sets I look forward to purchasing and sharing with you soon.

I have already been asked about my storages boxes twice by random strangers… they really are quite special, and this particular one has a beautiful mandala printed on the top.

El Cove

El Cove starter pack bottles and refill caps

It is so wonderful to see all the innovative ideas that are coming to fruition these days. This household cleaning brand makes trying them ultra easy. They have an awesome Starter Kit.

What is smart about this system is that you receive several bottles and then you basically just refill these with refill caps. This naturally saves a lot of plastic, as well as minimising the carbon footprint of shipping just the little caps as opposed to full bottles of liquid. You add your own water to the product with one of the caps when you are ready to use it. El Cove was co-founded by 17 year old Stacia and she is on a mission to be a part of the refill revolution and we absolutely support her cause.

Thank you for being so inspiring, Stacia, and bringing this project to life.

Eco Kitchen

Bamboo and coconut Kitchen Srub brush and biodegradable loofah sponge.

We are thrilled to come across this brand right before it launched. If you are looking for a more eco conscious way to live in your kitchen, this starter kit gives you a nice nudge in the right direction. It includes a bamboo scrub brush and a loofah sponge.

Both are biodegradable which means you can compost the brush and sponge when you are done with them. I look forward to testing that out in my bokashi, see our ¨Gardening Post¨! It also includes some BPA free lids that you can literally use over any pot or bowl or even put right over half a fruit or round vegetable. And lastly it has a beautiful mesh shopping bag to inspire to leave the paper, or even worse plastic bags, at the register.

We truly wish you the best in this beautiful community you have entered and look forward to supporting you along the way. Thank you for creating products that aid us in living more sustainably.

Clean Cult

Clean Cult dish soap in a recyclable container

This is so simple and so rewarding, we purchased a glass bottle for our dish soap a while back. I purchase these very cool and sustainable refills by Clean Cult that come in carton packaging. I really love the lemongrass smell but have yet to try the others.

I get to recycle the bottle and it makes me feel so much better about my purchase than just buying another plastic bottle (with nowhere to go) full of soap! Join the #refillrevolution and let’s put and end to plastic.

Tru Earth

Not only does Tru Earth make a great laundry detergent, but it comes in strips in a tiny cardboard envelope. It is completely zero waste and eco-friendly. Honestly it does not get more sustainable than that, even their carbon footprint with shipping is minimal. This is one of the eco swaps I am most proud about in our home.

Nowadays you can even buy biodegradable sponges to do your dishes. Another really easy switch is your plastic toothbrush. If you look around your house you will find that most of your disposable plastic items can be replaced, when they are no longer of use of course, with something eco-friendly, ethically made and sustainable. Every time you spend money towards anything you are casting a vote: Vote for a better world.

It all makes a difference it all makes an impact.

Thank you for showing interest in our eco friendly blog, we are on a mission to leave a better earth behind for our children, if you read this YOU are too….. THANK YOU! We look forward to meeting you along the way. We would also love to hear about some of the eco-friendly options you have come to discover and love.

Eco Friendly Sustainable Gardening tips

¨Turn off the News and Build a Garden¨. As our ,ever so talented, friend Lukas Nelson sings in one of his songs. Thank you for the beautiful music and honestly we could not agree more.

We are thrilled to hear about how many people during the lock down have gotten down and dirty in the soil and decided to grow a garden! Having this time at home has inspired so many to connect with their backyard. I really believe that to be an amazing positive of 2020.

Composting is probably one of the most beneficial things we can do for our garden as well as the planet. We wanted to share some tips and resources with you. What we have used to make our garden flourish even more. We want to introduce you to the Bokashi Composting System. It is so important that we nourish the soil so that our plants can thrive. There is currently a beautiful documentary about this on Netflix “Kiss the Ground¨ which we also highly recommend.

Bokashi Living

Feeding our soil is one of the most important steps we can take towards a better future for our earth. It is as simple as composting the foods we are already using at home. Instead of those food rests ending up in a landfill and rotting away, you can nourish the soil right outside your house with it and give back to mother earth.

Photo sourced from Bokashi

How great is that? You don’t even need to plant a garden, you can just nourish the earth right outside your house, with your waste products and feel good about doing your part towards climate change. Or you can grow a luscious garden, with fruit and vegetables you and your friends can break bread over. Or simply plant beautiful flowers and attract bees, and humming birds into your life.

We also recommend, Eden Brothers, they have a nice selection for organic seeds. I also highly recommend these awesome biodegradable starter pots, as you can just transplant them directly into the soil without harming the roots. There is even a better garden hose option, to water your garden without the toxic chemicals from you regular hose. As you can see the options are endless.

Not only is gardening relaxing. It connects you to nature and brings you to the simplicity of nurturing your own food. I truly see it as a beneficial practice for mankind. So get outside and put the good energy into the soil. Plant some seeds and reap the rewards of watching your beautiful garden grow!

I guarantee you, you will feel accomplished about doing it. We would love to hear about your gardening experiences and success stories. For more really resourceful gardening products check out our friends at Earth Easy.

Thanks for reading and sharing.

Why the Berkey water filter is our favourite

Eco Couple uses affiliate links. We promote products we have tried ourselves and truly believe in. If you make a purchase using a link we may receive a commission. Such revenue helps keep this website running, and allows us to keep the content free for readers. This motivates us to stay on our mission of inspiring conscious consumerism.

The Berkey Water Filter

We are extremely connected to all bodies of water, as are many of us. Be it in the ocean, a lake, a stream or river. I always feel calmer when close to water. I have always questioned the importance of water and which water we drink and how that affects us considering we are made up of such a large percentage of water.

Where is my water coming from? Is it alive? Has it been sitting in plastic bottles under the sun for months? How clean is it? I was curious about these things and tried to get the best water I could find.

Over the years I have tried many different water filters, from complicated filtration systems under the sink to countertop filters, to Kangen water, and honestly what sits right with me personally is: can I get water that is closest to the source of how nature intended us to drink it! I don’t even know if that sentence made any sense but what I mean is…. Is there a filter that would work if I found a natural water source, it can of course be tap water but I am thinking more like a natural waterfall. I eventually stumbled upon the Berkey on one of our trips, the house we rented had the filter. I was intrigued but not 100% convinced until, I went and collected fresh water from Iao Valley and brought it home to filter through my Berkey. So yes I admit I found my perfect water! I am not going to lie we do not always have the time to collect that precious water, so we sometimes use our fawcett and that tastes great too. We try to make it a weekly ritual with the family to drive an hour into the valley and collect water from its source, and it is always a great excuse to connect with nature and swim in the cold fresh water.

The travel Berkey is the one we ended up getting and I really like the size for a family of 3 and it is easy to travel with, also in case of an emergency we can even filter rain water through it. So we are super happy with it.

On the other side, imagine never having to buy a plastic bottle ever again!! (Well almost never) When you have your own filter at your house you never run out of water, you fill up your reusable bottle, my preferred bottle when we are out and about is The Yeti (Keeps things cold for a long time) and an absolute must have for home is my Blue Bottle, which I can lay under the full moon or energise with the sun…. water does not get better than this!

So whatever you choose to go with just be a part of the plastic pollution solution and drink your choice of filtered water wherever you are in the world.

If your choice is an under the sink filter we recommend Pristine Hydro.

Hydro Pristine

After lengthy research on under the counter filters, this is the most affordable and efficient one we found. You can spend thousands of dollars on other options but this one delivers perfect water to your home and has proven the test of time. Use code: ECOCOUPLE for your 10% discount
